Starting a flavoured water business?
If you love what you’re tasting to the point where you’re inspired to start your own flavoured water business then you will need to consider adding 0.25g of Sodium Benzoate to your 1 litre water mix as a preservative.
Here is the suggested method for doing a small, 1 litre sample run of sugar-free, flavoured water containing the preservative sodium benzoate:
1. Weigh the sweetener, and sodium benzoate in a small amount of water, and ensure everything is well dissolved.
2. Weigh and add the flavouring to the mixture.
3. Weigh the citric acid and mix it into the solution from step 2.
4. Once everything has dissolved, add the remaining still or sparkling water until the total volume reaches 1 litre.
5. Your mixture is ready for sampling
Important Note: Make sure the preservative is well-dissolved before adding the acids to avoid a chemical reaction.
Technical aspects need to be tested before you’re ready for resale
If you’re making flavoured water at home, you won’t need to worry too much about all the technical aspects (like pH), but if you plan on selling it commercially, you’ll definitely need to consider and test a lot more variables before going to market. Just a friendly heads up before you start your flavoured water business journey 🙂
